Print. This print was the basis for George Chambers 1838 painting of the event (BHC0355), commissioned by Edward Hawke Locker for presentation to the Naval Gallery of Greenwich Hospital to mark its centenary. Locker's ancestor Commodore Brown had been Vernon's second-in-command in taking the Iron Castle, on the left, and with Vernon's permission formally received the Spanish surrender. The sword of the Spanish commander, surrendered on that occasion, is also in the NMM collection (WPN1248).
