Summary[edit]

Description

Two frame Cassini Narrow-Angle camera mosaic of Titan, using images taken through the infrared CB3 filter.

At the wavelengths visible through this filter, Titan's opaque atmosphere is partially transparent, allowing for observation of surface features. This image captures much of the southern hemisphere from the equator southward. In particular, this captures the bright regions Xanadu (much of the right half of the image) and Hotei Regio (in the 6 o'clock position). Also visible are the dark lake regions of the south pole (9 o'clock) and the dunefields of Shangri-La (2 o'clock)

Late summer storms are common in Titan's polar regions. Clouds from one such storm are visible as a cluster of bright spots near the 8 o'clock position on Titan.

This image was taken on June 7, 2005, from a distance of ~852,000 km.
