Description
English: Photo taken at the Lofoten War Memorial Museum (Norwegian: Lofoten Krigsminnemuseum) in Svolvær, Norway's largest exhibition of uniforms and smaller items related to the Second World War and the German occupation of Norway 1940 – 1945:
  • Coat of arms (Wappenschild) of the Schlachtschiff Tirpitz, a WWII battleship of the Kriegsmarine, the navy of Nazi Germany 1935 – 1945. Tirpitz was commissioned in 1941 and sunk by British bombers at Håkøya outside Tromsø in the Northern part of Norway on 12 November 1944. Between 1948 and 1957 the wreck was broken up by a joint Norwegian and German salvage operation. Wall plaque (Plakette) found in the wreck.
