Description
Español: Desarrollo de la placenta. La placenta —del latín torta plana refiriéndose a su apariencia— relaciona estrechamente al bebé con su madre y atiende las necesidades de respiración, nutrición y excreción del feto durante su desarrollo. La placenta se desarrolla de las mismas células provenientes del espermatozoide y el óvulo que dieron desarrollo al feto y tiene dos componentes, una porción fetal, el corion frondoso y una porción materna o decidua basal.

English: The placenta is an organ unique to mammals that connects the developing fetus to the uterine wall. The placenta supplies the fetus with oxygen and food, and allows fetal waste to be disposed of via the maternal kidneys.
