Italiano: "Il dipinto fu pubblicato come opera autografa del Tintoretto dal Suida (1946), che forni' una serie di importanti dati biografici sul personaggio raffigurato. Come indica anche la scritta sulla base della colonna a sinistra, si tratta del gentiluomo veneziano Lorenzo Soranzo che, nato nel 1519 e morto nel 1575, ricopri' nella citta' veneta importanti cariche pubbliche. Nel 1553 fu eletto camarlingo del comune e, come fa supporre anche la ricchezza dell'abbigliamento, il ritratto fu probabilmente eseguito in quell'occasione. Lo stesso personaggio appare effigiato dal Tintoretto in due dipinti, l'uno conservato al Kumsthistorisches Museum di Vienna, l'altro nel museo di Nantes. L'autografia tintorettesca del dipinto in questione non e' del tutto convincente. Anche se il mediocre stato di conservazione impedisce una lettura corretta della superficie pittorica, una certa aridita' e secchezza di esecuzione fanno supporre un ampio intervento della bottega."
