Description
Eesti: Klaasiksääsklased (Chaoboridae) on sääseliste alamseltsi kuuluv sugukond täismoondelisi putukaid. Klaasiksääsklasi on teada umbes 100 liiki.

Klaasiksääsklased on kosmpoliitse levikuga. Nad on suguluses Corethrellidae'ga ja surusääsklastega (Chironomidae), tähtsaim erinevus on adultsete klaasiksääsklaste tiivasoonestus. Sageli valmikud ei toitu, kuid mõni liik võib imeda nektarit.

Vastsed on vee-elulised ja läbipaistvad. Vastsetel on unikaalne toitumismeetod: nende tundlad on muundunud haaramiselundiks, mille abil püütakse toitu. Toidus on nii teiste putukate väikesed vastsed, vähikvastsed (näiteks vesikirbulised) jt. Haaramiselundiga torkab ta saagi läbi või purustab selle ning toob vastse suu juurde.

Antud isend on leitud linnatiigist Rakverest.
English: Chaoboridae larvae. Chaoboridae, commonly known as phantom midges or glassworms, is a family of fairly common midges with a cosmopolitan distribution. They are closely related to the Corethrellidae and Chironomidae; the adults are differentiated through peculiarities in wing venation. If they eat at all, the adults feed on nectar This specimen was found in a pond in the city of Rakvere, Estonia.
