Text Appearing Before Image:
THROUGH THE LOOKING-GLASS in the wood near them, though shefeared it was more likely to be a wildbeast, Are there any lions or tigersabout here? she asked, timidly. Its only the Red King snoring, said Tweedledee. Come and look at him! the broth-ers cried, and they each took one ofAlices hands and led her up to wherethe King was sleeping. Isnt he a lovely sight? said Twee-dledum. Alice couldnt say honestly that hewas. He had a tall red nightcap on,with a tassel, and he was lying crum-pled up into a sort of untidy heap andsnoring loud— fit to snore his headoff! as Tweedledum remarked. Im afraid hell catch cold withlying on the damp grass, said Alice, who was a very thoughtful little girl. Hes dreaming now, said Twee-dledee; and what do you think hesdreaming about? 74
Text Appearing After Image:
Its only the Red King snoring TWEEDLEDUM AND TWEEDLEDEE Alice said, Nobody can guess that. Why, about you! Tweedledee ex-claimed, clapping his hands triumphant-ly. And if he left off dreaming aboutyou, where do you suppose youd be? Where I am now, of course, saidAlice. Not you! Tweedledee retorted, con-temptuously. Youd be nowhere. Why, youre only a sort of thing inhis dream! If that there King was to wake/added Tweedledum, youd go out—bang!—just like a candle! I shouldnt! Alice exclaimed, in-dignantly. Besides, if Im only asort of thing in his dream, what areyou, I should like to know? Ditto, said Tweedledum. Ditto, ditto! cried Tweedledee. He shouted this so loud that Alicecouldnt help saying, Hush! Youllbe waking him, Im afraid, if you makeso much noise. 75
