Summary[edit]
DescriptionThrone Charles III of Spain.jpg |
English: Throne made for King Charles III of Spain, whose profile features in the medallion atop the backrest. Since the reign of King Alfonso XII (1874-1885), every Spanish sovereign has had a copy of this original made, incorporating his own portrait. Today two identical thrones are in the throne room of the Royal Palace in Madrid: one with the effigy of King Don Juan Carlos Ist, the other with that of Queen Doña Sofia. Sculpted wood, gilded in Madrid before 1772. Madrid, Patrimonio Nacional, Palacio Real, El Palacio de San Ildefonso. Photo taken during an exhibition of various thrones, in Château de Versailles, France.
