Summary[edit]

Description
English: Thornton Force Waterfall A great example of a waterfall for students! Thornton force is a classic example of softer rock underlying hard rock (which is clearly visible in the photo). The softer rock is eroded quicker than the harder cap rock, forming an initial drop. This drop is then made deeper primarily though hydraulic power to form a plunge pool. The splash-back from the drop causes undercutting of the waterfall, eventually leading to overhangs collapsing under their own weight into the plunge pool and the subsequent headward erosion of the entire waterfall.
