Summary[edit]
DescriptionThirlestane Castle - geograph.org.uk - 39924.jpg |
English: Thirlestane Castle. One of the most beautiful castles in the country, Built as a tower house originally around 1590 it was substantially altered around 1840 by Sir David Bryce when the central tower was added to and two new wings were added. A major restoration was started in the 1970's and in 1984 the castle was passed into the hands of a Charitable Trust which was then endowed by the National Heritage Memorial Fund. This partnership between the Public and private sector has since become known as the Thirlestane Formula and has been put into practice at many historic houses throughout Britain. |
