From the Second Annual Report of the Writers' War Board (January 1944, page 13):
- Since Congressional action in early June resulted in the elimination of the Graphics Division of the OWI and in a general paring of federal poster activities, governmental agencies have tended to be more dependent than ever on the Board's Poster Committee. As acurately as can be determined from information on hand, approximately three-quarters of generally distributed governmental posters during 1943 are products of the Poster Committee.
- The principal contribution made this year was the poster and slogan, "Back the Attack" by George Schreiber, for the Third War Loan Drive. Three million copies of this poster in various sizes were distributed by the U.S. Government.
The annual report lists the members of the Poster Committee on page 27:
Thomas Craven, Reeves Lewenthal (co-chairmen), Thomas Benton, Clifton Fadiman, Jack Goodman, William Gropper, Laura Hobson, McKnight Kauffer, Reginald Marsh, Lester Rondell, Nick Samstag, Howard Scott
