TheSyrian Church, perhaps the oldest of all,and still using Aramaic as their rituallanguage—akin to that spoken by our LordHimself—is to be found mainly in thenorth, though a small body, with theirown bishop, remains in Jerusalem. TheCopts is from Egypt, the Abyssinians andArmenians have their own Churches inJerusalem. These are all varieties of what is knownas the Orthodox Church, said to numbersome hundred millions, mainly in EastEurope and Palestine, who hold fast to the(Ecumenical Councils, together with somesix millions more, who reject them in oneor more particulars. The main body ofthis Church is known to us as the Greek,in distinction from the Latin Church, or, aswe commonly call them, Roman Catholics. 184
