thelumberman has sadly changed the great tim-berlands of Penns Woods. The state is doing much toward the reforesta-tion and protection of timberlands; there arethree state nurseries and over 900,000 acres inforest reserves. A state commissioner and a de-partment of forestry have been appointed, andPennsylvania has the only state forest academyin the country. Seedlings are distributed atcost for the growing of private woodlands, andmunicipal forests may be established with theconsent of the commissioner in any city, bor-ough or town of the first-class.
