is stand-ing near the shore, and is about half a mile above Wilkinsonville. Directions for Map No. 20.—Ohio River,WILKINSONVILLE, right side 10 When you are opposite the above mentioned white tree, wear gradu-ally to the left to avoid the rocks and shoals of the Grand Chain,(which you have been along side of for more than a mile) and comein to a sand shore on the left and close under a bluff bar. The chainof rocks keeps on further down about three and a half miles, butIhey are all on your right, in the middle of the river. You now keepnear the left shore bar about two miles, then wear a little towards thefoot of the rocks, so as to be in the middle of the river opposite a littlecluster of houses under a bluff on the right, then wear in to the rightfor 150 yards below a peak in the bluff where the old cedar or someof its branches stand yet. This cedar tree was once called the land-mark for going in to the shore, but it is too high up the river, at least150 yards. Now we are past 7 K

MAP NO. 20.—OHIO RIVER. 75 The Chain Keep near the rignt shore for a mile, then wear out into the current. CALEDONIA, right side NEW AMERICA, right side. . Channel near the middle of the river opposite this place. When amile below town, wear in a little to the right to avoid the bar makingoff from Cash island, which lies near the left shore; channel to therights—opposite this island, near the right shore. In a little bend thereis a large willow bar; this is called Cash bar—channel rather nearerthe willow bar than the island, and it goes in to the right shore alittle below the bar at a house on a little mound. TRINITY, and Mouth of Cash River, rightside Keep nearest the right shore to the Mouth of Ohio, or City of Cairo, right side. The landing is very good at Birds Point and for some distance above, but there are some logs under water, so it will bewell enoughto come in shore with but little headway in low water; in high waterthe landing is not so good, excepting below the houses
