«4 MAP NO. 17.—OHIO RIVER. you are nearly a mile above the island ; then wear in to the right untilwithin 150 yards of the shore, then wear off slowly to the left until youare near the middle, and within 100 yards of the wooden dam thatruns from the right shore quartering down towards the foot of theisland, then make square in for th« island about 200 yards above itsfoot, keep within 100 yards of this the big left hand bend to its foot ifyou choose, then wear off into the right hand bend, dont run it quite soclose, and when you are at the point on the right, keep near the rightshore around it and close in opposite the head of Diamcmd Island . This is a large island in the middle of the river. The channel is to theright of it and near the main shore from the head to the foot, you thenmake quslte a long cros«ir>g into the left ^hand bend below,^keep close inthis bend for about one mile to a false point on the left, then makea long crossing, so that you will be within two hundred
