VIRGINIAS Warbler VERMIVORA VIRGINI.* (Baird) Plate VI Distinguishing Characters.—General color gray; crown-patch chestnut, upperand under tail-coverts and breast-patch yellow. Length (skin), 4.20; wing, 2,40;tail, i.8s; bill, .40. Adult i, Spring.—Crown-patch chestnut tipped with gray; cheeks andback brownish gray, eye-ring white; rump and upper tail-coverts dull yellow;tail fuscous, outer pair of feathers usually margined with white on the innerweb; wings margined with gray, no white bars; below grayish white, breast-patch and under tail-coverts yellow. Adult tS, Fall.—Similar to above but crown-patch more broadly tipped,underparts more buffy. Young c?. Fall.—Not seen. Adult ?, Spring.—Similar to adult <? in Spring, but chestnut and yellowareas somewhat paler and more restricted. Plate VI

Young 9, Fa/i.—Similar to adult ? in Spring but crown-patch nearly obso-lete, rump and under tail-coverts duller, under parts huffier, no yellow breast-patch. Nestling.—Aho\e grayish brown; throat and breast paler, belly whitish;upper and under tail-coverts saffron; wings and tail as in young c?, greaterand median coverts brownish gray narrowly but sharply tipped with buffy. General Distribution.—Rocky Mountains of the United States,north to Colorado (common), Utah (Wasatch Mts., Salt Lake City)and Nevada (East Humboldt Mountains). Winters in Mexico.
