George Blakistone, president of the Central RailwayCompany, of Baltimore, Md., has invented a fenderattachment for his cars, which has received the approvalof the Baltimore Car Fender Commission as complyingwith all requirements of the city ordinance. The prac-tical value of this fender has been demonstrated in ayears service on the cars of the Central Railway Com-pany, during which time many lives have been saved andnot a few damage suits avoided. The appearance of the front fender is well shown inthe illustrations given herewith. A netting of stout ropeis stretched upon an iron framework, which is hinged tothe car and held up by two chains hooked on the upperedge of the dashboard. The front edge of the fender isflexible.
