The building is located alongside the track and is 3ofeet long, by six feet wide, and so arranged that passen-gers enter at the ends, and leave from the sides. Theend doors open inward, and the side doors outward. Ordinarily, however, the doors are kept locked, thetransfer agent remaining on the outside always, and open-ing the end door to let passengers in, while a boy on theoutside performs the same office by opening the side doorfor the exit of passengers. The general design of the building is very much like acar. The windows are made with double sash, so thatthey can be let down from the top or raised from thebottom. The monitor deck and extra height also con-duce to the best of ventilation in every kind of weather.A cellar below will be fitted with some simple and effic-ient heating apparatus before winter. STREET RAILWAY TRANSFER STATION. LEXINGTON, KV. There is a small vestibule at the side so that the dooropening outward does not come in contact with the pass-ing car. As the building is nearly twice the length of acar, the car is enabled to stop with the front platformopposite the side or exit door. The passengers are there-fore required to leave the car from the rear platform,and to leave the transfer station from the side exit, enter-ing the car byway of the front platform. No transfer checks or tickets are required on ordinaryoccasions, as the number of passengers are counted bythe agent in charge of the station, and he notifies the con-ductor of the number of transfer passengers. On occasions when traffic is unusually heavy, and thebuilding is unable to accommodate all transfer traffic, thedoors are thrown wide open, and transfer tickets given. the limits of space, but is found wide enough for everypurpose.
