This structure, the successor to This pavilion is owned and operated by the street rail-way company, the city reserving the right to purchase itat any time, as the building is situated on park property.The refreshment and amusement privileges are under thedirect management of H. M. Barnett, who buys themfrom the street railway company. Mr. Barnett has a herd of 14 Shetland ponies, whichare usually busy drawing little folks around a smallcircular track for a small consideration. This is the onlyspecial attraction of the resort proper for which there isany charge. Everything else (with the exception of theboating which is operated by the city) must be free, andany profits accruing to the lessee of the pavilion must bemade from the sale of cigars and refreshments. Thereare other special attractions at the place, but they areusually in the form of musical specialties in connectionwith some band or orchestra. FLOATING BAND STAND AND PAVILION BUILT BY MINNEAPOLIS STREET RAILWAY. the one which was burned in May. 1891, stands in theedge of the water, the entire building resting upon piles.It was opened about the middle of the summer of 91,having been built by the street railvva) company at acost of $15,000. There are two floors and a broadexpanse of red roof of the rustic design which char-acterizes the entire work. The second floor projectsslightly over the first, giving the effect of an awning. Allexterior woodwork is covered with stained shingles andthe interior is finished in Georgia pine. On the lowerfloor are a restaurant and cigar stand which fill all thespace except a broad promenade at the four sides. Thesecond floor is supplied with chairs in case some indoorgathering is on hand, but ordinarily these are stacked upin a small space and only a sufficient number to line therailings are made available.
