Compressed air has never in this country gone furtherin the operation of street railways than brief, and hithertounsatisfactory, experimental trips, in widely separatedportions of the land and at intervals quite remote butextending over a period of more than twenty years. is well known that the failures in air engines have largelyarisen from the freezing of valves and pistons even in thehottest weather, from condensation of moisture containedin the air, which suddenly forms ice as the air isexhausted under extremely high pressure. The time ofday and its temperature therefore were not specially infavor of the motor. THE MliKARSKI SYSTEM has been incorporated in New York under the name ofthe Mekarski American Compressed Air Motor Com-pany, is promoted b\ the Rand Drill Company, of NewYork City, and is under the immediate direction of J.
