The Pullman Company maintains, in addition tothe great plant at Pullman, six repair shops situatedat various convenient points throughout the countrywhere cars are repaired and maintained in good con-dition. In 1916, a total of 5,115 cars were repairedat these various shops at a cost of over five milliondollars. Only by such rigid maintenance can thecars be kept in the almost invariably excellent con-dition in which they are found by the public. Years ago the wearied traveler wrapped his greatcoat about him for his midnight journey.
