The barrelchurn is an old one, perhaps as old asthe plunge-dash churn, and it still re-tains a greater hold than any other onthe fancy of dairymaids. The plunge-dash churn, indeed, is moribund, andmust in time be classed amongst thevanished equipments of dairies. Undervarious adaptations, of which the end-over-end form is the principal, thebarrel churn has not only survived all recent changes in dairy equipment, but \ is more firmly established now than -^ ever before. The barrel-shaped bodyhas long been acknowledged as thene plus ultra in the larger churns forhand power, nor is it discarded inchurns for power beyond that of an arm or apair of arms.
