If when he pleads himselfguilty, as he has in this case, you dare to violateyour oaths and say he is not guilty may the goodGod deal with you because by heaven the peoplewill not. The import of all this language is notclear, but the statement that Ruef had pleadedguilty in the case at bar is bald, unvarnished mis-representation. He never pleaded guilty to brib-ery. He pleaded guilty in one of the Frenchrestaurant cases, and even then, in the samebreath, affirmed his innocence. Another vaguethreat is to be found in folio 13380: Dure youacquit this man ?
