1 cup of sugar.5 eggs. 2 cups of flour.I cup of butter. HOW TO MIX. Rub the sugar and butter together lo minutes untilcreamy. Divide the eggs in three parts and add in one-third and rub 3 minutes, then add in one-half of the eggswhich remain and rub the same as before, then add in thebalance of the eggs and rub the same, then add in the flourand mix lightly. Grease a flat pan well and place paper 011the bottom, then place the mixture on the pan and spreadit one-fourth of an inch thick. Bake in a moderate oven. After baked and cold, place the layer on a table, cut it inhalf and spread one piece with jelly or cream (the sameas used for cream puffs), then place the other half on thetop of it and ice the top with any kind of icing desired, orspread it with cocoanut and pour boiled chocolate icingover the top of it, then spread it over with a knife. Place the water and lard into a two-quart saucepan, letthe lard dissolve slowly in the water and then place it over ahot fire and let it come to a good boil, add in the flour andstir quickly for i minute, then put the paste into a bowland add in the ammonia and two eggs and stir i minutewith a stick, divide the remaining eggs in two portions andrub each portion in with the hand i minute. Place a half-inch tube into an ornamenting bag and put the mixtureinto it, then press it through the tube on a piece of whiteor brown paper, greased, and form rings a little largerthan a silver dollar, i inch apart, and place them: in smok-ing hot lard, with the paper side upward, and let themstand one-half minute, then remove the paper and let themfry on one side until light brown, then t
