Barbados is undoubtedly the healthiest of allthe West Indian Islands. The temperature, as a rule,varies from 75° Fahr. to 83° Fahr. ; the island enjoys thefull benefit of the north-east trade-winds, and in the wintermonths the minimum mean temperature at night falls aslow as 630 Fahr. The annual rainfall varies from about50 to 70 inches. The rainy season sets in about thebeginning of June and lasts until the end of October. Onthe windward side, the climate is especially invigorating,and the island is much patronised by residents in neighbour-ing colonies as a health resort. The birth-rate is about ^6and the normal death-rate not more than 26 per thousand.
