n-ing flag. We would havegiven a trifle to have hadtime to make personalinvestigations into that coppice. There wasapparently something attractive to the Blood-hounds. Half a century ago the Bloodhound wasso little esteemed in this country that thebreed was confined to the kennels of a veryfew owners ; but the institution of dogshows induced these owners to bring theirhounds into public exhibition, when itwas seen that, like the Mastiff, the Blood-hound claimed the advantage of havingmany venerable ancestral trees to branchfrom. At the first Birmingham show, ini860, Lord Bagot brought out a team froma strain which had been in his lordshipsfamily for two centuries, and at the sameexhibition there was entered probably oneof the best Bloodhounds ever seen, in Mr.T. A. Jennings Druid. Known now asOld Druid, this dog was got by LordFavershams Raglan out of Baron Roths-childs historic bitch Fury, and his bloodgoes down in collateral veins through Mr.L. G.
