her of the late LordHill. A powerful athlete of over six feet,Major Hill was an ideal sportsman in ap-pearance, and he was noted for the longdistances he would travel on foot with hishounds. They were mostly of the purerough sort, not very big ; the dogs hereckoned at about 23V inches, bitches 22 :beautiful Bloodhound type of heads, coatsof thick, hard hair, big in ribs and bones,and good legs and feet. In seeing them ata meet it was noticeable that some weremuch shorter in their coats than others—not shorter, however, than the coat of anIrish Terrier. Possibly these may havebeen cross-bred. Something, however, must be allowed for the exposure and hardwork that falls to the lot of an Otterhoundin respect to coat. The Hon. GeoffreyHills hounds were in perfect command :a wave of his hand was enough to bringthem all to any point he wanted, and hewas remarkably quiet.
