The artist had not reached that point when 338 THE INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, 1876. he felt that he could attempt the production of the lustered ware, the truemajolica, but he was confident that he would attain to that stage in due season. Our illustration on page 337 represents a section of a Carpet exhibitedby Messrs. J. Templeton & Co., of Glasgow, Scotland. The pattern in thecentre consists of geometric figures, as graceful and delicate as snow-crystals,symmetrically arranged on a ground of neutral color, but two or three shadesdarker than the figures themselves. At regular intervals, medallions of a bright,positive color are introduced, on which are small, flower-shaped figures of thesame hue as the pattern in the other portion of the fabric.
