The periosteum, when healthy, possesses little sensibility,when diseased it may become very sensitive and painful. Bones are said to be cylindrical, as in the arms; flat, as in theshoulder blades; and irregular, as the pelvic bones, ribs, skull, etc. Everywhere in the living bodywe can trace the evidences of design.Thus we find that all the large bones, such as those of the arms and Fig. 73.
