Great Trochanter. 202 HEALTH AND DISEASE outer condyle behind is a deep depression termed the sujora-condyloid fossa. Patella (fig. 310).—This is a small irregular bone analogous to the knee-cap of man, and in the horse fre-(juently becomes displaced. Behind itis covered with articular cartilage, andcomes into contact with the trochleaof the femur, over which it plays inpulley-like fashion as a part-of thestifle-joint. Tibia or Second Thigh (fig. 3ii). —A long bone extending from thefemur to the hock joint. It is broadabove and narrow below. The sujjeriorextremity articulates with the condylesof the femur, and is divided into twolateral articular portions l)y a conicalprojection (tibial sjjme).
