Summary[edit]

Description
English: The disused railway line crosses a stream below Sturdy Bank. Two major embankments were needed to link the iron workings on Rosedale East with Rosedale West and Blakey. The one shown in the photograph crosses an anonymous stream which has cut deep fissures. On the north side of the fissure is a footpath which becomes a paved causeway (see 18234) on the top of the moor, and thought to have been used by the monks travelling over to Great Fryup Dale and Whitby. Sturdy Bank is the promontory on the skyline at the left hand side of the photograph.
