GROUP OF JERSEY CATTLE. The group on the opposite page is made up of selections fromthe Jersey herd of C. S. Dole, Esq., of Crystal Lake, 111. Thefawn-colored cow on the left, as we look at the picture, is Belle ofCollingwood 5565. This cow is especially rich in the blood of Albert44. Her sire, Simon Peter 1848, was by Pansys Albert 1008, sonof Albert 44, and Simon Peters dam was also by Albert 44; his2d dam by McClellan 25. Belle of Collingwoods dam was Flora3d 4369, and she by Albert 44; 2d dam Flora 420 (by McClellan25), a granddaughter of imp. Pansy 8. The other cow is QuakerGirl 4551, a nearly solid-colored dark fawn, and is a full sister toBelle of Collino-wood. Neither of these cows have been tested forbutter. The bull calf, which forms the center of the group, is outof Quaker Girl, and was got by Daisys Champion, a bull that tracestwice in three removes to Champion of America 1567, and whosedam is a daughter of Rex 1330. GUERNSEY COW ROSEBUD OF LES VAUXBELETS 4th. Calved July 19, 1879; bred by James James, Island of Guernsey,and imported 1882 by her present owner, I. J. Clapp, of Kenosha,Wis. Color, fawn with some white. Tested at four years old, inmidsummer, running on grass with other cows and fed same as Mr.Clapps other dairy stock, showing a yield of 17 lbs. 10 oz. of butterin seven days.
