He quiteforgot that he himself used to huntwith a terrible gun before he hadlearned to love the little people ofthe Green Meadows, the Green For-est, and the Old Pasture. He stooped and very tenderlylifted the little Bob White, whoclosed his eyes and was sure thatnow all would soon be over. BOB WHITEYou poor little thing! You poor,poor little thing! said FarmerBrowns boy as he looked at the tornand broken wing. Then he lookedacross at the hunter and scowledsavagely. Just then the hunter sawhim and at once started toward him.You see, the hunter thought thatperhaps if he offered FarmerBrowns boy money he would allowhim to hunt on Farmer Brownsland. He knew that was where BobWhite and all his family had flownto. When he reached the fence, hesaw the little Bob White in thehands of Farmer Browns boy. Hello! exclaimed the hunter in (164)
