Text Appearing Before Image:
nty times a day Peter would hearthat warning, Watch your step! Still, in spite of this, he was gladthat the Bob White family hadmoved over to the dear Old Briar-patch. It gave him a chance to learnmore about the ways of Bob Whiteand his children than he couldpossibly have learned in any otherway. You know, Peter is alwaysanxious to learn, especially aboutother people. It seemed to him that never had he seen babies grow as(91) BOB WHITE did the little Bob Whites. Theywere everywhere. There were fifteenof them, and Peter often wonderedhow under the sun their motherkept track of all of them. But shedid. One thing he noticed, and thiswas that they obeyed promptlywhenever she called to them. If Red-tail the Hawk came sailing lazilyover the Old Briar-patch, watchingwith sharp eyes to see if anythingwas going on down there that hedidnt know about, little Mrs. Bobwould give a warning, and every oneof those youngsters would squatdown right where he happened tobe and not move until she told him

Red-tail the Hawk came sailing lazilyover the Old Briar-patcJi BOB WHITE he might. So old Redtail never oncesuspected that the Bob White familywas there. When Mrs. Bob calledthem to her, they came running onthe instant. Such obedience wasbeautiful to see. Then, when they were all nestledunder her wings, she would tellthem about the Great World and allthe dangers that they would have towatch out for when they were bigenough to go out into it, and howeach one was to be met. As they ranthis way and that way in the OldBriar-patch, they picked up tinyseeds. Peter had not supposed thatthere were so many seeds as those (94) WATCH YOUR STEP!little Bob Whites found. You knowPeter does not eat tiny seeds, and sohe never had noticed them before.Mrs. Bob led them about, showingthem what seeds were best and whatto leave alone. They didnt have tobe shown but once. Often theyvaried their fare by picking tinyinsects from the low-hanging leaves, and once in a while there would bea struggle between two
