printed volume intended for re-ference long after its issue from the press, would be likely tomislead, and probably do great injustice; inasmuch as im-provements, now faulty, may, before the next season, berendered very comfortable; and bad hotel accommodationsare often amended in a day by a change of landlord or ma-nager. It is of the nature and medicinal applicability ofmineral waters that I have felt called upon to write; and thisI have done without prejudice, fear or favor; having no in-terest, directly or indirectly, in any of the springs, and in-fluenced alone in my estimation of them by personal observa-tion, or, when this has been wanting, from the most reliableinformation I could obtain. 1 am not vain enough to suppose that none of my opinionsare erroneous ; to err is both human and common ; but uponthe honest integrity with which they have been formed, theinvalid, the profession, and the general public may rely.
