Lindestrom, Campanius and Rising describethe country and the Indians and they give many facts of greatinterest and value for the historian of the settlement, but againwe look almost in vain for social facts. From other sources, however, account-books, bills and memo-rials, we are able to draw some material, and from these, sup-plemented by our knowledge of conditions in Sweden and Fin-land, we shall endeavor to construct a picture of social NewSweden, imperfect, it is true, but as satisfactory as the ma-terials allow.2 The government of the colony, the trade and Pion. of Fr. in the New World, p. 343.
