He was supposed by his fatherto have had it from inoculation at anearly period of life, and had subsequent-ly been exposed to variolous infection onvarious occasions without receiving thecomplaint. This instance (and manyothers might be adduced), suffices toprove, that small-pox may occur twiceto the same individual. Small-pox, also,occasionally affects a person after havingbeen vaccinated. A recent instance,that of Lord Grosvenors son, has excitedgreat attention, and no little alarm. Thefact is indisputable, the young gentle-man was regularly vaccinated, and hasjust gwie through the small-pox in theconfluent form. This circumstance,however, though of great moment, can-not, in a rational mind, remove the con-viction, that vaccination possesses themost important advantages to individualsas well as to the public. Since the prac-tice of inoculation for small-pox was in-troduced, the disease has been productiveof much more fatality than before : theindividual inoculated may, indeed, be
