Summary[edit]
DescriptionThe Pool Tower (3783406896).jpg |
The massive "Pool Tower" guarding the outlet of the 18th century BCE Canaanite tunnel allowing access to the Gihon spring. The walls are 3m thick. The spring itself was downhill from this tunnel outlet, but water from the spring was chanelled to fill a 10m deep pool cut into the bedrock at the foot of the tower. Israelite inhabitants, like their Canaanite predecessors, drew water from this pool. This whole area is now enclosed by a concrete structure to protect it from weathering. |
