been the college professorof mathematics, though other important branches in philosophyand in science have from time to time come under his supervision. He is the only graduate of the Uuniversity who has receivedthe degree of Master of Science, in the branch of mathematics. This degree was conferred in 1888. Alpha Omicron is proud to cite Professor Ford as one ofher first initiates, a man of thorough worth, who has won hishigh standing through his own perseverance. Baker was communicated to the brothers in their re-spective homes far away and again the hand of death has beenlaid upon another town brother, Mitch Cummins, who died inCumberland river, Sunday, June 12, 1898, when in the 23rdyear of his age. His comrades and brothers of Lambda desireto place on record a testimony of their grief at his untimely end. In his sudden and seemingly premature death, we recognizethe hand of an all-wise Providence who doeth all things well.*Lambda Chapter realizes that she has sustained an irretrievableloss. Lebanon has lost an honored citizen, the students, a faithfulfriend and his church and Sunday School an earnest and zealousworker. The boys of 99 who return will listen in vain for thesound of his footsteps on the stairs, no more will that echo beheard along the passage way. That voice we loved so well tohea
