By the Coulterville Route, after leaving Piercedin the morning and passing through the towns ofSnelling and Coulterville, Dudleys Ranche isreached for the first night. The valley is reachednext day at 5 p. m.; passing into it along thefoaming river, as it rushes out the narrow canonbelow the valley proper, the Biidal Veil is on theopposite side of the river, but too distant to seeits rainbow, or appreciate its peculiar chaims. El Ca)iitan. and all other features of interestspoken of on the Mariix)sa Route, are also passed.By this Coulterville Route, Bowers Cave ispassed, and a fine view is obtained from PilotPeak. The cave is an immense and picturesquecrack or sink in the solid limestone of the mount-ain top, into which one may descend to an irreg-ular bottom about a hundred feet square, in onecorner of which is a small and beautiful lake.
