Summary[edit]

Description
English: The obelisk was built in 1762-1763 to replace the original market cross erected by Alderman, Henry Jarratt in 1723. It was removed in 1881. The Primitive Methodist chapel behind was built in 1867 and included a Sunday School. It was closed in 1955 and demolished to make way for a garage. Next door, West End House, was a Drapers that also sold ladies clothing under the proprietor, J.W.Yates., this too was demolished to make way for the garage. The house, Highgate House, was the home of Dr Bolton, a well known local physician, this property was later partly demolished to make way for Lord Roberts Road.
