Description |
Information on The Magill Homes is from Public Works Dept. 1914-15 .See also GN01581A, 1588 and 1589. This new institution took the place of the old Destitute Asylum, Adelaide and was called the Magill Home. The buildings were erected with bricks from the Magill Brick Company, which had its kiln close by, 5 October 1915. The Magill Old Folks' Home opened in 1917 and was the government's institution for aged residential care. Upon opening, elderly residents of the Destitute Asylum were moved to the Magill Old Folks' Home. The Magill Old Folks' continued in operation at Magill until 1986 and was replaced in 1989 by a new facility at Elizabeth South. |
