The celebration thathad overrun Great Britain and taken possession of France,penetrated Italy, and traversed the Mediterranean to Corfu,where Serbian Government officials attended High Mass inhonor of the holiday. There were celebrations in Egypt,Siam, India, and on the Pacific. In Australia demonstra-tions were made in all the principal cities, and in Japan,the Philippines, and Hawaii. American boys celebratedthe day with their English and French comrades in armsat various sectors on the front. In South America the day was celebrated in unprecedentedmanner. There were more American flags inthe business district of Buenos Aires than are usually seenin American cities in peace times on the Fourth of July.President Irigoyen declared that Argentina \s sympatheticapproval had followed the United States step by step. Allthe provinces in Chile observed the day. Chilean newspapersapplauded the words of President Wilson in expressing thevows of his nation to continue the war until victory wasachieved. China, the immemorially old country, now ayoung Republic, remembered the holiday. East and Westmet. Asia and Africa alike heard the Liberty Bell. For the second time in its history Paris saw Americantroops march through its streets, brilliant with flags.
