| Description |
English: Located on Kingston Road in Bradford-on-Avon, the Iron Duke is a large calendering machine which serves as a memorial to the town's 150-year involvement in the rubber industry. The machine's historical purpose was for rolling rubber into sheets, binding rubber and reinforcing textiles, and was the first of its kind used outside the US.
The Iron Duke was given to the Bristol Industrial Museum in 1970, but was returned to Bradford-on-Avon in July 2016 and publicly unveiled on 24 September. The charity-endorsed project included the reassembling of the machine on location and the building of a rainproof shelter. |
