ndoning the study of symptoms because there are fewor many we do not as yet understand ; there can be no doubt that amore perfect knowledge of them would make us all better and moresuccessful physicians. Many physicians say, and truly, that homoeopathy has nothing todo with mechanical or chemical diseases or symptoms. Then cer-tainly they should have sufficient diagnostic ability to recognize suchailments, or to detect what proportion of the symptoms in a case aredue to one or the other of these causes, since such symptoms mustnot be taken into consideration in making a homoeopathic prescrip-tion. At first glance this may seem an easy task, and one which thephysician is not often called upon to perform, but a careful study ofthe matter makes it appear in a much different light. Let us sup-pose that wTe are prescribing according to the totality of the symp-toms, and see where it will lead in the following case from practice,which we will attempt to carefully analyze: (To be continued.)
