05,?. HARLEM, OR THIRD AVENUE BRIDGE. The new bridge, which is to replace the old one, is now incourse of construction. The draw span when finished willhave a total Length of l)(.h> feet, giving a clear opening forvessels of 102 feet on each side, and the bottom chord will be24 feet above high-wate: line. It will have two sidewalks,each 9 feet wide; two roadways, 16 ft. (.> in. wide on each sidefor trucks, etc., and in the centre a space 17 ft. w ide, givingroom for a north and a south bound car track. The northern approach will consist of a truss 11 7 feet longfrom the end of the draw span to the commencement of anopen steel structure, supported on columns which will canythe roadway by an easy incline as far north as 134th Street.From that point there will be a solid fill between granitewalls until the grade of Third Avenue is reached at 135thStreet. The grade from 135th Street to the Southern Boule-levard will be 3 feet in 100 feet, and thence to the bridge IAfeet in 100 feet.

Strenuous efforts were made by the North Side Board ofTrade and similar organizations to secure for this great struc-ture a direct approach on Third Avenue, 1 > u t without success.Bui sufficient attention was given to these efforts to secure theextension of the easterly approach from midway between Thirdand Second Avenues on 129th Street to 12sth Street and it<junction with Third Avenue ; and also the widening of this approach to a 60 ft. roadway and our if a 10 ft. sidewalk on the northside of tin1 Lexington Avenue approach.
