s, having flowers 4 inches across, with broadwhite segments, richly spotted with purple at thebase. Ittgttstnim coriacuam, Carriere, t. 7519.—A speciespresumably of Japanese origin. It is of very slowgrowth, and has densely crowded, thick, evergreen,ovate leaves. We have always found it hardy nearLondon, but have never seen it in flower. HcmipUia amethyslimt, Rolfe, t. 7521.—A glabrousterrestrial Orchid, native of the Shan States. Thesingle leaf is sessile cordate, ovate acute, green,spottod with purple. The erect scape bears a many-flowored raceme of small flowers, insignificant but forthe prominent white lip, which bears a magentablotch. Flowered at Kew. Paracaryum Iteliocarpum, Korner, t. 7520. — AWest Himalayan hardy Boragineous perennial, withlong-stalked, hoary, lanceolate leaves, and loose,many-flowered cymes ; the individual flowers abouthalf an inch long, drooping, bell-shaped, with a pinktube and blue limb. THE GARDENERS CHRONICLE. 109 Gardeners Royal Benevolent Institu-tion.—We have the pleasure to annouuce that a per-foruiauce of the comedy-opera, Dorothy,* has beenarranged to take place in St. Georges Hall, LanghamPlace, VV., on Thursday next, February 18. Theperformance is in aid of the special fund being raisedby the above Institution to commemorate the sixtiethyear of Her Majestys reign, and will be given bythe members of the AVestminster Amateur Operaticand Dramatic Society, with full orchestra. The Vic-toria Era Fund is intended for the temporaryassistance of candidates awaiting election, and isdeserving of all help possible. Particulars andtickets for the performance may be had from the Hon.Secretary, H. Morgan Veitou, Esq., 16, CliffordsInn, E.G. Ulster Horticultural Society.—At the last committee meeting of the above, it was decidedto celebrate the Diamond Jubile
