Description
English: The Experimental Brig squadron of 1844: 'Flying Fish', 12 guns

Various Experimental Squadrons were at sea in 1844-6 testing new technology. That of 1844, which included several brigs, departed Spithead on 22 October, sailed to Portugal, and returned to Devonport on 6 December.

Inscribed: (above) “The Experimental Brigs” and (below) “H.M. Brig Flying Fish, 12 guns. Constructed by Sir William Symonds.” The ‘Cruizer’, 16 guns, is shown in the distance astern of the ‘Flying Fish’, with the ‘Mutine’ and ‘Daring’ (from left to right), both 12 guns, ahead of her; all are identified via inscription.
