Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Chattri War Memorial. 12,000 Indian soldiers who were injured in WW1 were treated around Brighton and Hove. Fifty-three Hindus and Sikhs who died in the hospitals were cremated at this location and their ashes scattered at sea. Unveiled in 1921 by the Prince of Wales this monument was funded by Brighton Borough Council and the India Office. A memorial service is held at The Chattri in June each year.
