| Description |
English: During the American Civil War, the Shenandoah Valley was a major source of food and supplies for the Confederate Army. Beginning September 26, 1864, and lasting for 13 days, Union forces under the command of Major General Philip Sheridan burned supplies, livestock, food, and agricultural infrastructure that could be used by the Confederate Army. A major portion of the burning was conducted between Harrisonburg and Staunton and Waynesboro. |
